The Lander County Sustainable Development Committee's first overreaching goal was to match existing mine infrastructure to business and development needs, and utilize that infrastructure once the life of the mine has expired.
A second goal emerged: capture the Battle Mountain area's business environment and community vision. The Lander County Sustainable Development Committee is turning this information into shared knowledge and the strategies to identify opportunities for sustainable growth and development for new and existing businesses. This task evolved into the multi-faceted Battle Mountain Business Enhancements Program; born from more than a year of research and analysis groundwork from the University of Nevada, Reno Center for Economic Development.

findproject.org/Infrastructure Database
The first task in the FIND project was to provide an inventory of the assets on the ground. Developers, stake holders and other interested parties have access to county land use information, major water, sewer and power infrastructure as well as recreational features and links to community organizations.
Community Outreach/Retail Sector Analysis
Another FIND task was community outreach and thus ownership in the FIND outcomes. Working with the University of Nevada the FIND Project embarked on Retail Sector analysis (Community Leakage Study) on what money is being spent in Battle Mountain vs. what money is leaving Battle Mountain. Other Community surveys incorporated within the study included entrepreneurial survey and business/retail sector analysis and Community Vision and Desirability. These survey were coordinated and conducted by the University of Nevada, Reno Center for Economic Development.

Business Matching Model
This was a series of quantitative and qualitative surveys, including two community-wide focus groups, asking citizens their vision is for the economic future; the type of jobs, education and environmental thresholds. Students at Battle Mountain High School played a role in this portion of the FIND project conducting the business surveys and presenting their findings to the committee in spring 2010.
